Southend Barns Wedding {Charlotte & Anthony } You had me at Hello…

Southend Barns is one of my favourite venues for weddings, there’s so much space and the grounds are so beautiful and well maintained and the light inside is just gorgeous.  Oh and if you get a sunset over those back fields, like we were lucky to have for Charlotte & Anthony’s big day, then wow… you can’t ask for much more! Except there is so much more of course – fab caterers, great owners and wonderful staff, to mention but a few!

There was no question for Charlotte and Anthony when looking for a venue that it would be Southend seeing as Anthony was on the initial build of  the Barns – he already knew Will & Mariella the owners and how beautiful the buildings & grounds were so it was a given they’d have their reception there.  The ceremony itself took place in the lovely little church in their home village of West Chiltington and a big red London bus from Southern Transit based in Steyning came and dropped all the guests off and took them on to the reception afterwards.  Bit hairy down some of the narrow country lanes but the driver did a sterling job and got everyone to the church (just) in time!

I loved Charlotte’s Augusta Jones “Lois” dress from White Mischief Bridal, she looked absolutely stunning in it.  Anthony had his suit custom made by Hugo-Morris in Brighton and the bridesmaids gorgeous olive dresses were those fab wear them pretty much any way you like ones from Two Birds – also purchased from the lovely Laura at White Mischief in Henfield.  The flowers were from Findon Flowers and Charlotte’s shoes and the cake topper was from this fantastic shop in the US, I’m soooo pleased I didn’t discover this before my own wedding day otherwise I’d be a very very poor married lady!  Oh the prettiness…. ahhh!

Their day was fun and laid back; with 2 young boys they didn’t want to be fussing over all sorts of formalities so group photos and couple portraits were kept to a minimum, I think I managed about 4 or 5 of the happy couple on their own plus the sunset shot and I was privileged to have been able to capture that 😉  I totally get it though, it’s a wedding day not a photo shoot and I’m not there to boss anyone around or demand we do this or that.  I can suggest ideas for the best light and point out there’s a sunset but the rest is down to my bosses on the day – the one in the white dress and the most dapper chap!  But I am happiest left to my own devices – just to capture your day naturally and really feel a part of the celebrations.  I had such a giggle with Charlotte & Anthony’s friends and family, everyone made me feel so welcome and I was very impressed with the dance floor turn out in the evening – good on The Deloreans again for getting everyone up on their feet and their hands in the air!

The Tithe Barn Hampshire ~ Florence & John

Florrie & John chose The Tithe Barn in Hampshire not just because it’s such a gorgeous venue but because their wedding day was to be on such a grand scale with no less than (around) 200 guests – I think, … I lost count!  And what a day it was, the atmosphere was immense with all their fabulous friends & families having such a wonderful time.  Their big day was back in January… despite the miserable weather and dark afternoons it’s actually a  lovely time of year to have a wedding, just after Christmas and the New Year, keeping that party spirit alive a bit longer!  I went home with a huge grin on my face and aching cheeks from laughing so much with everyone.

Florrie got ready at her parents family home in the countryside that morning, I was worried I wouldn’t get there due to all the floods locally but I braved the roads / rivers in my NON 4×4 (having watched a smaller car than mine make it through a rather deep section!) and arrived just in time for some delicious home baked food from Florrie’s mum – and to take some snaps too of course.  All natural – they really didn’t want anything posed at all which is always fine by me!  They had a late ceremony so it was practically dark when we emerged from the church and pitch black by the time we got to The Tithe Barn.  We also had a power cut during the service so the majority of it was held by candle light alone (talk about keeping me and my camera settings on my toes!)  It was a wonderful service though and Florrie’s brothers all sang in perfect harmony from the gallery in the church whilst her younger sister played the violin, it was absolutely beautiful to listen to.

Florrie and John didn’t hang around afterwards, we had a quick confetti shot of hundreds of leaves Florrie’s little sister had gathered and dried then the happy couple drove off together in their lovely old landy to the barn to start the celebrations there.  You could hardly move for all the tables and guests sipping mulled wine but we still managed a few group photos in a corner (must thank John’s friend for helping me gather everyone there!), what a giggle, there was just such an amazing buzz in the barn!  Jacaranda catering did a superb job with the meal – roast lamb to be carved by the guests themselves at the tables… what a great idea, a real conversation starter! I kept thinking to cater for so many can be no mean feat but they did brilliantly and the staff all made it look effortless so everyone could just continue to enjoy themselves.  I grabbed a bite to eat with the band, The Deloreans and the céilidh crew who were both so much fun.  Winter weddings are a challenge, I won’t lie – the lack of light, the often rubbish weather, power cuts (!), steam on a cold lens in a warm room full of people breathing (!) – but I think the warm glow of candles that day just added to the atmosphere and in any case, I’m there with my couples to capture their wedding what ever the weather and date and hopefully I did John & Florrie’s day justice – they certainly said they were very happy with the hundreds (and hundreds!) of photos they got.  Here’s just a few – hope you like them too!

Sheralyn & Shane ~ Pre Wedding Kisses & Cuddles on the Beach!

We ambled down to the beach for Sheralyn & Shane’s pre wedding shoot at West Wittering the other day but instead of parking in the big car park we walked down through the church and found a cute little bench surrounded by bluebells along the way – perfect!  Sheralyn & Shane are gorgeous and lovely and kind and sweet and sooo in love and I can’t wait for their big day… so I’m pleased it’s coming up very soon in May at the beautiful Grittenham Barn!    I had a lovely afternoon with them both, they made me feel really relaxed – hold on, shouldn’t that be I made them feel relaxed?  Thing is, it works both ways and I am always so grateful to my wonderful couples who make an effort with me too – they let me in and make me feel like they want me to be there, they giggle along with me (or at me…. at me is fine too!), they make me feel it’s not so bad cuddling the person you love while I take some photos!  So I’m at ease, you’re at ease, we’re all giggling along,  making up words like shnuzzle (a kind of snuggle and nuzzle at the same time!) the photos are flowing and the results… well here’s a few from the other day so you can see how relaxed and fun and just a little bit shnuzzly a pre wedding shoot can be  😉

Karaoke Pub Crawl Wedding ~ Tasha & Mike tie the knot UK style!

I finished 2013 off with a bang….!  A karaoke pub crawl wedding!!  I kid you not!  What an amazing day it was too…  Natasha & Mike came all the way over from South Carolina, USA with a close knit group of friends to spend some time together partying and getting married and partying some more!  Mike’s family originates from Ireland and Natasha’s mum lives right here where I live in Felpham village, just outside Bognor.  They had the most beautiful ceremony in the Catholic church in Bognor Regis, it really is such an amazing building inside, it totally surprised me…. stunning!  The service was lovely too, Natasha’s Uncle Dave gave her away, it was really special and I love that moment as they walked down the aisle together of them looking at each other.  The heavens opened up whilst we were in the church but that didn’t stop Tasha and Mike going up to the dunes at West Beach afterwards for a few fun and romantic snaps before we headed back down to where they were having their wedding breakfast at Littlehampton Golf Club.  After a few drinks and the speeches I left the party to enjoy their meal for a few hours and joined them again later for karaoke fun in the George Inn in Felpham.  This is the point at which I could not stop giggling and my sides were aching from laughing so much!  What a fun crowd and what a hilarious evening… they belted out all the karaoke classics with such erm…. how shall I put it?  Such skill and grace?  Yup, that’ll do!  All that’s left to say is thank you thank you thank you for booking me to come and capture your day and join in the fun with ya’all!  And please guys…. just don’t stop believe’in…. grab a pork pie and hold on to that feelin’…..  😉  You’re the best! x

Winter Wedding at Gaynes Park ~ Essex Wedding Photography ~ Laura & Neil are married!

I love a winter wedding at Gaynes Park, in fact I love a wedding any time of year at Gaynes!  Whereas some venues struggle when summer is over, Gaynes keeps delivering all year round.  Laura & Neil chose to get married mid November and it was perfect… the trees were still looking Autumnal, the pergola in the gardens looked so pretty with all the twinkly lights on, the gather barn was so warm and inviting and the orangery was the perfect under cover drinks reception area to keep everyone warm.

Laura and Neil’s was the final wedding I shot before my own big day last year and I was on such a high with them, I kept thinking if my day was as fun as this then it’s gonna be good!  Their day was just that, so. much. fun!  I loved working with Richard from White Dress Films – what a nice guy and his work is incredible.  If you want creative, seamless, beautiful footage of your day then you really should have a look at his website.  His assistant Craig was a superstar and some what clever at writing backwards with a video light – we got that night time LOVE shot in one take!  Sheer skills!

Rather than waffle on about how lovely the ceremony was, how beautifully they’d chosen to decorate the barn or how much fun we had with the Snapstick booth in the evening and the hilarious face masks of Neil his friends all put on during the first dance… I’ll just post some photos instead!  Let them tell the story of their amazing day through my eyes…. enjoy!
